MET maintains the critical standards for communication needed for you to thrive in the real world. Our focus on high standards, relevance to real-life situations, and straightforward preparation sets you up to make the most of life-changing opportunities. MET is accepted by over 25 U.S. boards of nursing and in 46 states through the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC). It is also accepted by HRSA to apply for occupational visas to work in the U.S. and by CGFNS, Josef Silny & Associates, and other agencies to process your application.

Ten Steps to Working as a Nurse in the United States
- Complete and submit the application form.
- If you meet the initial requirements, you will be invited to take an initial English test to determine your level of proficiency in the language.
- If you have the required level of English to start the program, you will have an interview with a recruiter, will learn more details about the program, and if still interested and successful, will sign an initial agreement to join the program.
- Successful candidates will enroll in the English language training program with one of our training providers. You will take an online English course, which includes 240 hours of teacher-led English language instruction, plus access to additional learning materials.
- At the end of the course you will take another test to evaluate your progress in English and determine if you are ready to take the Michigan English Test (MET). After finishing the English course, you will sign an agreement to continue with the rest of the program and continue with the application process to work as a nurse in the United States.
- You will prepare for and take MET, a requirement for your occupational visa and your licensure application. You must earn a 55 overall score on MET, and a 55 in the Speaking section of the test, to progress to the next stage.
- You will prepare for and take NCLEX-RN, the exam that determines your readiness to work as an entry-level nurse in the U.S.
- After completing all the exams, you will start interviews with healthcare organizations to find the one that is the best match for you. Then you will complete your Assignment Confirmation Letter with information about your anticipated start date, pay rate, bonuses, and more.
- You will participate in the Clinical and Cultural Interpersonal Communication Skills and Cultural Competence Course to help you keep developing your oral communication and interpersonal skills in English while you learn about life in the U.S.
- And finally, you receive ongoing support to help you with your relocation to the U.S.., all at no cost to you.
